FAQ
Q: Which nationalities can apply for an ED Visa?
A: Almost all nationalities are eligible, but document requirements vary based on immigration policies:
– Western, Asian & European passports: (e.g., US, UK, EU, Australia, Japan, Singapore) Processed normally with standard paperwork.
– Restricted Nationalities: (e.g., China, India, Middle East, African nations) Eligible to apply but require additional screening, including a Criminal Background Check from their home country and the Royal Thai Police, which adds about 3–4 weeks to the process.
Q: How long does the ED Visa process take?
A: The entire process takes approx. 30 to 45 days. We highly recommend applying at least 45–60 days before your current visa expires. The process is divided into two main steps:
1. Ministry of Education (MOE) Approval: The school submits your application for an official letter of approval (takes 10–14 days).
2. Immigration Approval: Your visa is either converted locally or issued via a Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate online (takes 2–4 weeks).
Q: Can I convert my current Tourist Visa to an ED Visa inside Thailand?
A: Yes, in most cases. You can change your Visa Exemption or Tourist Visa to an ED Visa at the local Immigration Bureau without leaving Thailand, provided you have at least 15–21 days remaining on your current stay.
